HiI've been trying to upgrade the firmware on my Buffalo Linkstation Live. The current firmware on there is 1.06 (which was what it was supplied with) and according to Buffalo the latest version is 1.62.I've downloaded the zip file and extracted it to another folder, but when I double click the exe file it, the hour glass mouse icon comes on for a second and then goes off and nothing happens. I've tried to copy it over to the NAS and run it from there, but that doesn't work. The NAS is linked to my Netgear DG834GT router as is my PC which is running XP pro.Anybody got any suggestions?Cheers. I thought that the latest version was 2.10 too. But I read on one of Buffalo's FAQ's about firmware and it said if the firmwar you are using starts with one point something the firmware upgrade you should use should also start with one point something and the same if the firmware you are using begins with 2 point something the upgrade should also start with 2 point something. So I emailed them and they said the latest firmware is 1.62.So do you think it will be ok to install 2.10?Where do I get the installer tool from?Cheers.
I've spoken to Buffalo's technical support now and the guy told me the only difference between 1.03 and 2.06 was the web access. I said I had firmware 1.06 and he said that was inpossible as there was no such version. Which is quite scary as I had the Linkstation utility in front of me saying my firmware was 1.06.A funny thing happened, mind on the Buffalo website.
When I looked at it this morning it said the latest firmware was version 2.10. After I phoned Buffalo I went back to the same page on their website later in the morning the file had changed to 2.06. It was a different sized file too, so it must have been a different one.OddCheers. Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I have a similar problem with my Linkstation.I have a 500GB (model number HS-DH500GL) running version 1.06 of the firmware. There are no specific problems with it other than random disk activity which is quite noisy. I'd like to try and get it up to the latest firmware in the hope that this resolves the problem.Did you ever get your firmware updated successfully?

Can you provide a URL from Buffalo's site which points to a firmware starting with 1.x?Any help really appreciated.thanks. I didn't bother in the end, it seemed a bit risky with the different firmwares on their website and it wasn't that clear and I had no major issues with it's perfomance. The main issue I had was the same issue as yourself where the disk didn't stop spinning.
I put a post on these forums about it and it seemed to be normal for this type of NAS.When I spoke to Buffalo tech support the guy said you can resolve this issue by going into the PCcast menu when you log onto the NAS and disable the media server option. I tried it, but I don't think it did much good, but it could be worth a try.If you do upgrade the firmware, let me know how you get on.
The only info I got came in the e-mail which said.' Here is a link to the firmware updater and latest firmware version for theLinkstation Live:You will not need to run any other updates before executing this one.'
That's it.Still haven't run it as I'm not able to until tomorrow.Don't get confused with the version number of the LiveUpdater software which I believe was also 2.x. I don't think there is any way of determining the version number of firmware being installed without installing it.Wish there was some clearer instructions so I could have a bit more confidence in this. Just a quick update.Tried to apply the update tonight. The Updater software recognised my Linkstation once I had disabled Windows Firewall and Kaspersky's Firewall. The firmware transferred to the Linkstation successfully. The updated failed however as I received an error message saying that the Updater software couldn't get a response from the Linkstation, although it had successfully communicated during the update initiation.I've sent a precis of this to the Buffalo helpdesk, but will try again tomorrow when I've not been drinking wine!Cheers! Just in case there's any out there having problems upgrading their own firmware, I thought I would just complete the story. On advice from Buffalo tech Support, I connected the Linkstation directly to my laptop via ethernet cable, changing the IP address and subnet and disabling all firewall software (windows and Kaspersky in my case)This caused a fatal error to occur on the Linkstation. I had the error light flashing 6 times, which indicates hard disk failure.Buffalo Tech Support initiated the return process, and after a couple of weeks, I eventually obtained an RMA number.
They were soooo slow!I have now returned the Linkstation to Misco, and they have sent a new one. The different version of the firware as discussed above are true:shows version 2.06shows version 2.10What is wierd is that version 2.06 was posted on Sept 17th 2007 and version 2.10 was posted April 30th 2007In any case the instructions on how to update the firmware can be found in article KB#000046 - Firmware Update and here is the link to the instructions: =Though the above link to the instructions are for Buffallo wireless devices, the menu structure is the same. There is another set of instructions for LinkStation pro/live but seems to be more complicated for beginners: =i will try to upgrade the firmware tonight and let you know how it goes. The reason why i am upgarding the firmware is because of the webaccess error: cannot connect to buffallonas.com, check internet settings. Or something like that.

There is no other reason. If anyone else has had the same problem/error and know how to fix it please let me know.
